Akira Jimbo is having a clinic on Wednesday, March 19th at 7:30 PM at West Coast Drum Center in Santa Ana, by South Coast Plaza for those in the Los Angeles/Orange County area.

West Coast Drum Center is a great place and they know drums. I buy from them when I can.

    Hope to see you there!

He has a DVD coming out in the next couple of months, just ask him. Though I'm sure he will tell you several times. I saw him in Columbus, Ohio on the 16th. When he did take questions, he referred the asker to his new DVD, which would be for sale soon. A young kid asked for his drum sticks, and he said the local drum shop would sell him a pair at a good price. I don't know, I like what he does behind the drums, but his attitude seems to get lost in the translation.

Not all senses of humor are comparable, so let's not count him out of the cool drummers loop just yet.

Are we to damn Neil Peart for never throwing his sticks out in the crowd for fear of pokins someone's eye out?

I thought Akira was pretty darn funny in the MD Festival Weekend 2000 DVD.

I went to the Akira Jimbo drum clinic and thought it was good. He seemed to have a good sense of humor and his own style. One thing, which was nice, was that he allowed people to video tape and record him. Hagi, Yamaha's master drum designer, was there too.

I really enjoyed the clinic. Akira Jimbo is VERY funny! The new Yamaha Oak drums sounded really nice. He also used a Zildjian Azuka multi crash that sounded really cool. I liked it so much, I bought the one he used! It was the only one available. No, I didn't have him sign it...
